The Hominy Friends Meeting is proud to offer a cookbook filled with favorite recipes from the congregation and many other local community members. Most of these recipes have been handed down from generation to generation.The cookbook features a section devoted to Traditional Indian Foods, such as Osage fry bread, meat pies, meat gravy, dried corn, * wild onions with eggs, grape dumplings and many more delicious plates! Other sections of the cookbook include Main Dishes, Vegetables & Salads, Breads & Cakes, Pies & Other Desserts, Cookies, and a Miscellaneous section. This cookbook contains over 350 recipes, information on the history of the Hominy Friends Meeting, Osage language, Osage feasts, and a Household Hints section with many useful tips. The price of the cookbook is $15.00 and an additional $3.00 for shipping and handling. The procedes benefit the Hominy Friends Meeting. They are among the first edible greens to appear in spring. For Osage people, spring begins the new year. Therefore a dinner featuring the tender delicacy of wild onions is essentially a New Year's celebration. The Hominy Friends Meeting holds an annual Wild Onion Benefit Dinner.
